The Mission of AMCA is to promote recognition of Air Conditioning & Mechanical Services as a significant sector of the Building and Construction Industry in South Australia.
OBJECTS
The objects of the Association are:
- To promote and encourage a high standard of technical performance and general business conduct of members
- To support and protect the status and interest of members
- To represent the views and wishes of members
- To consider and promote reforms of the law and its administration in relation to the industry
- To support other associations whose aims and activities are conducive to the attainment of these objectives
STRATEGIC PLAN
The successful long term strategy for the Air Conditioning and Mechanical Services Industry has as its goal, the promotion and support of reputable, financially sound contractors. The Association draws its membership from reputable contractors who practice the art and science of Air Conditioning and Mechanical Services in the Building Industry. By having such a solid foundation the Association is able to be a pre-eminent authority of Air Conditioning and Mechanical Services to the Government, other Industry Associations and society in general. The Association provides the industry forum so that companies can collectively be recognised as part of a vibrant and strong industry sector group.
In fulfilling the Mission the Association addresses the following strategies:
COMMERCIAL
To support all of the other strategies members must be well informed on the commercial environment in which business is conducted. To ensure that opportunities can be taken and companies can manage the change process they must ensure that:
- the company is well managed and management practices are relevant
- the economic indicators are analysed and applied to business
- trends in the building and construction industry are identified and applied to the change process
- the financial structure, capacity and control is sound and enduring
TENDERING
Good tendering practices have a flow-on effect on the other strategies in providing the surety that companies can survive in an environment of trust and security. To ensure good tendering practices prevail there must be:
- ethical standards established, agreed and observed
- information flow that is open, timely and correct whilst still operating within the law
- standard forms of contract with minimal change conditions are adopted and repressive conditions and contracts are rejected; and
- fairness in all tendering and contractual relationships
INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS
The Association members are employers of labour. The impact of Industrial Relations on the ability of companies to practice good business means that all the Industrial Relations issues need monitoring and continual assessments of their impacts. To do this there must be:
- close co-operation with other relevant industrial relations bodies to influence the issues and receive early advice
- assistance to companies in such areas as loan labour, and advice on specific matters
- a commitment to promote a culture of communication, planning, co-ordination and co-operation in the workplace; and
- encouragement of a client-focused work ethic which supports commercial imperatives and social values
STANDARDS
The science of the industry revolves around ensuring that there is a good body of standards and that companies comply with them. To ensure this occurs there must be:
- influence Standards Australia, NEBB and other standard specifiers
- a facility for advice and help to companies with their management of standards
TRAINING
The future of the workforce can only be ensured if training is right. Training encompasses all aspects of the operation of the industry sector from worker through tradespersons to professionals and support staff. To do this there must be:
- influence on training courses in the complete spectrum of the industry
- an attitude to training from a systems perspective rather than just a component perspective, this ensures there is integration of training rather than just the individual's skill development.
To ensure that the above can be made the Association must be well managed and have involvement from all companies in the industry.
